More Than Just a House: My First Solo Spec Build at 38 Mildred Place

There are moments in life that just feel different. Moments where years of dreaming, planning, and hard work coalesce into something tangible, something real. For me, that moment is now, as I stand on the freshly laid sod in front of my very first solo invested and designed spec build at 38 Mildred Place in Atlanta.

If you've been following my journey, you know how deeply I connect with the idea of "home." My last blog post, "The Emotional Journey of Leaving Your First Family Home," delved into the profound sentiment tied to the spaces where we build our lives. Now, on the flip side, I'm experiencing an entirely new wave of emotion: the immense pride and excitement of creating a home from the ground up, entirely on my own vision.

This isn't just another project for me; it's a testament to belief, research, and a calculated leap of faith. A little over a year ago, I saw the potential in this land, understanding that its location in Atlanta was ripe for significant growth. And oh, what growth it is! Just a block away, the massive Cypress Grove development is now under construction. If you haven't seen the plans, you need to check out this article: https://atlanta.urbanize.city/post/massive-cypress-grove-ATL-development-under-construction-images. This isn't just about new condos or retail; it's about a complete revitalization of the area, a testament to the foresight that drew me to Mildred Place. The strong ROI I projected is not just a theory; it's becoming a vibrant reality right before our eyes.

Bringing this 2700 sq ft home to life has been an incredible journey, one that truly elevated my understanding of design and construction. It wouldn't have been possible without the brilliant minds at Trade Studios. Working alongside their award-winning architects (you can check out their amazing work here: https://www.facebook.com/TradeDesignStudio/) was an absolute privilege. Their expertise and collaborative spirit helped transform my initial ideas into the beautiful, functional, and inviting space you see in the photo.

And of course, I must give immense credit to my builder, Brendan Murphy. With over 700 homes under his belt throughout his career, Brendan brought an invaluable level of experience, precision, and dedication to this project. Knowing that a professional with his extensive track record was at the helm provided immense peace of mind and truly ensured the quality and integrity of every single detail. From the initial sketches to the final touches, every aspect of this home has been thoughtfully considered and expertly executed.

As I look at this house, I don't just see walls and a roof. I see late nights poring over blueprints, early mornings on-site, the hum of machinery, and the steady progress of a dream taking shape. I see the culmination of a year of dedicated effort, learning, and growth.

In the next few weeks, this home will be ready for its new owners, and while it's always a bittersweet moment to let go of something you've poured so much into, there's immense joy in knowing that a new family will soon be creating their own cherished memories within these walls.

Stay tuned for more updates, and perhaps even a virtual tour as we prepare to put 38 Mildred Place on the market. This isn't just a house for sale; it's a piece of my passion, and I can't wait to share it with you.
