(2015-2017) Graduate Assistant Coach University of West Florida

During the 2016-17 campaign the UWF Men’s basketball program experienced a dramatic shift in success. Preseason polls pick the team 10th out of 12 teams in the challenging Gulf South Conference, which includes successful programs by the likes of University of Alabama Huntsville, Christian Brothers University and Valdosta State. Once the season concluded, the UWF Argonauts stood at an impressive 20-8 record tied for 4th place. Just last season they were 7-19. Coach Jeff Burkhamer along with his staff of Brian Benator and David Pruett, achieved the greatest turnaround in UWF program history and Gulf South Conference history. 20 wins is most wins by any men’s basketball team at UWF. Listed below are the numerous records set during that season:

  • 20-8 (Most wins in Program History)
  • 7-19 to 20-8 (Best turnaround in program history and GSC history)
  • 5 Overtime games (Most in program history)
  • GSC Conference Wins (Most in program history)

Jeff Burkhamer left Lander to accept the job at UWF and brought David with him. They adopted a basketball program begging to be successful and are currently in the process of turning the culture of the program around.
